On Sunday 13th May I attended the Dorset Wedding Festival at Longthorns Farm, hosted by South Coast Events, after I won 2 tickets to the event by one of the suppliers on Facebook earlier that week.
I’ve been to a good handful of wedding fairs since getting engaged and they haven’t always been a pleasant experience – as a lesbian couple, explaining to suppliers and event staff it’s a same sex wedding has had some interesting reactions and frankly level of arrogance that is still present towards same sex marriage from people within the wedding industry is a little ridiculous.
However going to the Dorset Wedding Festival was like a breath of fresh air, that I most defiantly needed. I had an absolutely lovely time at the festival, we were greeted with smiles and excitement towards our wedding all day, one supplier in particular (Thompson Wedding Films) made my day after explaining she had not yet had the opportunity to film a same sex wedding and would love to get the chance to, she asked a ton of questions about our plans for the day – it was great to feel like she was genuinely interested and wanted to educate herself.
The festival had a brilliant atmosphere, it helped that the weather was lovely. The event had a proper outdoor ‘festival’ vibe, from the live music on the stage, pop up bars, bell tents, the smell of burgers and wood fired pizza, even alpacas!
There was a good selection of suppliers and companies we’d not met before, as often these events are very similar to each other, from photographers, florists, catering, music, venue decoration, hair and make-up and more. Whether you attended the festival on your own, as a couple, with the kids or anything in between there was something for everyone and the event really ticked every box.
The only downside to the day is that I couldn’t stay too long, I wish I’d given myself more time to get an ice-cream, a pint and sit enjoying the live music whilst soaking up the sun. So be sure to give yourself plenty of time to enjoy this day if look attend in future.
I would highly recommend this event to anyone in and around the Dorset area, check out their website and be sure to get yourself a ticket for the Autumn event taking place Sunday 16th September: http://www.southcoastweddingfestivals.co.uk/
